Ryan & Colleen Bradley Ryan and Colleen are still running and enjoying it as a significant part of their life.  Since they added twins to their family, the day before the premier of Spirit of the Marathon at the Chicago Film Festival in 2007, running is less about the times, and more for the pure enjoyment and release it provides.  Ryan and Colleen both ran the Chicago Marathon in 2008 and 2009 and are planning to do so again in 2010.  Their oldest daughter, Ellie (who is seen in the film) ran in her first 1 mile fun run last year and loved every minute of the race!.

Leah And Addie

Leah CailleSince completing her first marathon Leah has been very busy. Beyond training for and completing several half marathons, triathlons, and some shorter distance events, she trains a group of kids that includes her daughter Adelaide, for 5K runs. The group has successfully completed a series of runs in the Chicago area and is currently training for the 2010 Run for the Zoo 5K. In 2008 Leah suffered a back injury that required surgery and was sidelined for over a year. However after training with Chicago Endurance Sports (CES) she is ready to tackle the marathon again and has registered for the 2010 Bank of America Chicago Marathon!

Deena Kastor

In early 2008 Deena won the women’s Olympic marathon trials in Boston and was a contender for gold in Beijing. However, she dropped out shortly after mile 3 with an injury to her right foot. In May 2009, she ran her first race since breaking her foot and won, by 36 seconds, the Great Edinburgh 10k. In April she also ran the London Marathon, her first since her injury, and placed 18th. She had previously won London in 2006 and set an American record.

Jerry and Rona

Gerald Meyers

After taking over a year off from running, due to a blood clot in his left leg, Jerry is finally running again and is up to three miles a day. Released from the doctor’s care, the clot is officially gone, and having just turned 75, Jerry is thinking out loud that perhaps he could do one more marathon, a final goodbye. He is also happy to report that he has been recognized on the street three times as being “that old guy” in the running movie.

Daniel NjengaSince the release of the film Daniel has stayed very busy competing in marathons around the world. He has collected 1st place wins in the Tokyo Marathon (2007), and most recently in the Hokkaido Marathon (2009). The first place spot in the Chicago Marathon still remains elusive as he finished 3rd again in 2007 and 9th in 2008. Daniel also recently became a father with the birth of his daughter.

Lori O'ConnorAfter running the Chicago marathon again in 2008, Lori has been sticking to half marathons in hopes of both improving her speed and finishing her dissertation.  Her daughter, Anna, often joins her on runs and even a few races in her jogging stroller--she's quite the coach and cheerleader as she loves to yell "Faster, Momma! Faster!” Lori will be finishing her PhD soon and will likely be leaving Chicago. She’ll miss running on the lakefront, but is excited about training for a marathon wherever she ends up!
