Tips for Running or Jogging in Cold Weather

Cold Weather

Yes, it’s perfectly safe to run or jog in cold weather with the necessary preparation and warmup. Here are some tips for people who want to start running or jogging in cold weather.

Wear Layers

Dressing in layers is the most important tip we can give for people who want to run comfortably in the cold weather season. Your body will warm up fast once you get the running momentum going so it’s important that you are able to easily layer down as you run. Keeping the layers on may result in over-heating so it’s important that you have quick control of your body temperature.

We suggesting equipping yourself with the following apparel and accessories to be able to run safely in cold weather. Recommendations include: running pants, running gloves or mittens, warm hats, windproof jackets, and running socks.

Wear a Hat or Cap

In addition to wearing layers, make sure to wear a warm hat or cap. You will be surprised to know the amount of body heat lost via your head. It’s also the reason why you see the steaming effect with some people (especially with shaved head) who run in the cold weather.

Keep Hydrated

Rehydrating is absolutely necessary when you go for a long run or jog. You might feel less of an urge to drink while running in the cold weather but that shouldn’t stop you from keeping hydrated.

Shower Immediately After Running

This is especially important if you have a tendency to sweat a lot. Sweating will cool down your body very quickly and this may increase your risk of getting sick or getting a cold.
